Speak with more confidence.

Speaking only improves when you speak. Four habits that make practice count.

  1. 1

    Plan in words, not sentences

In your minute of planning, note two or three words for each point on the card. Full sentences take too long and make you read instead of speak.

  2. 2

    Keep going after a mistake

Examiners listen for fluency. Correct yourself quickly if you need to, then carry on. Stopping hurts more than the slip.

  3. 3

    Extend your answers

In Part 1, add a reason or an example to every answer. In Part 3, explain, compare and give your view.

  4. 4

    Listen back once

Record yourself, then listen for one thing only: pauses, a repeated word or a sound you find hard. Fix that one thing next time.

Questions.

Q1Are my recordings uploaded?

No. Recordings are made and played in your browser only. They are never sent to us and they disappear when you leave the page.

Q2Why does the examiner sound like a computer?

The examiner’s questions are read by the voices built into your browser and device. If your device has no English voice, the questions appear on screen instead.

Q3Can I practise with a real teacher?

Yes. Message us on WhatsApp to ask about a speaking mock with a teacher, who can listen and tell you exactly what to work on.

Q4How long should my Part 2 answer be?

Aim to keep talking until the examiner stops you, which is up to two minutes. Use your minute of planning to note a few words for each point on the card, not full sentences.

Want a person to look at it?

Free practice shows you where you are. A teacher shows you what to change. Message us and someone from our team replies, usually the same day.
